Hats an Anthology...

If you haven't heard about Hats an Anthology by Stephen Jones then your missing out. Showing exclusively in Queensland, you'll have to travel to check it out and what better excuse is there than "I can't see it anywhere else"!x

Say cheese...

In a time long gone, passers by the Post Office in Forrest Chase (Perth) would have their photograph taken. If they liked it they could purchase it. This is one such photo, pictured is my Grandmother and my aunt. My Grandmother trimmed the hat herself.

I never knew her as she died when my mother was just 19, but by all accounts she dressed well even on a meagre sum. I also have a picture of my Great Grandmother from the Post Office photograph days. I think it is such a shame that something like this doesn't exist anymore. Even if it was used as a record of the fashions throughout each decade. Plus it would certainly make for an interesting book...

Shh! Secrets of the South West...

If you are going to the South West this year then there are some places you really must visit. The first is the beautiful little town of Balingup. Not only does this town have a French Patisserie and a vintage toy shop, it also has 'The Vintage Nook'. This hidden gem contains an eclectic collection of vintage costume jewelery, bags, glassware, tea cups and vintage hats. The hats are mainly sourced from contacts in America and are exquisite ranging from big feathered affairs to small neat pill box hats. There were so many, pictured here is just a fraction of the collection. The Vintage Nook is open every Sunday. However during Balingup events they're open Saturday and Sunday.

If you want to find out more about what is happening in Balingup then have a look at the Balingup tourism website, www.balinguptourism.com.au.

Winter stop shop...

Well it is the start of the Easter long weekend and I urge all you hat fans to don your Easter bonnets in celebration (of hats, of course)! Right now I am in the middle of making three new hats, so I'll keep you posted of any developments. In the meantime here are some winter wonders to feast your eyes upon! My mum bought me the berret on a trip to Sydney and I knitted the other with my limited knitting skills. Again more black, sorry I really must use more colour. Don't worry though I have just finished knitting a red hat, picture pending! Happy Easter! Love Lucy
